  • Baggage declaration form (if required, 2 copies)

  • Non-diplomatic shipments are subject to import duties; diplomatic shipments are duty-free.
  • Shipments must be arranged at least 6 months before residence permit expiration.
  • High-value items must be declared to Customs:
    • Foreigners: items over RMB 5,000 (~USD 730)
    • Returning Chinese citizens: items below RMB 1,000 (~USD 146)

  • Customs clearance for returning citizens usually takes 10–12 business days.
  • Only one sea shipment and one air shipment is allowed per residence permit.
  • Air shipment duties are typically 30% higher than sea shipments.
  • Official Customs duty receipts are issued and provided upon delivery.
  • Electrical items must be clearly listed with model, serial number, and size.
  • Luxury goods, alcohol, cosmetics, health products, and toiletries are not recommended for air shipments due to high duty and restrictions.
  • Wood packaging must comply with ISPM-15 standards (heat-treated or fumigated and properly marked).
